How To Measure Ring Size

When it comes to choosing a ring, whether for yourself or your partner, friend or family member, it’s important to make sure it’s the right size. In this guide, you’ll find useful tips and information on how to work out an accurate ring size for a comfortable and secure fit.

Measure Your Ring Size

Before you can use the charts below, you’ll need to know how to measure your ring size. This method below will teach you how to measure your ring size in the UK, using millimetres.

  1. Take a piece of string or a piece of paper (no wider than 1.4cm or ½ inch), as this will help you to be accurate.

  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger you would like to measure.

  3. Use a pen to mark the point on the string or paper where it overlaps. The overlap will form a complete circle.

  4. Take a ruler and measure the length of the string or paper from the starting end, to the end you marked with the pen.

  5. Finally, use this measurement and compare it against the chart below to determine your UK ring size.

Tips For Measuring Your Ring Size

  • Make sure you can comfortably slide the string or paper over your finger joints/knuckles.

  • Measure your finger 3 or 4 times to make sure you’re getting a correct reading.

  • Use a few different pieces of paper or string too - these materials can twist or stretch so it’s best to take a few readings.

Measuring Your Finger Using Our Ring Sizer Chart

  • Take a ring that fits on the desired finger and place it over the circles on this chart.

  • Line up the ring by placing it in such a way that the inside edge of the ring matches the circle nearest in size. This measurement will reveal the diameter of the ring.

  • If the ring falls between two sizes, order the larger size. (Remember you may be able to order a half or quarter size).
